Bio

Yasmeen Sahira discovered her love for dance as a child, copying dance moves from music videos for hours on end. Although she always wanted to be a dancer, her parents encouraged her to take martial arts, instead. After achieving her black belt at 14 years old, she eventually went on to teach taekwondo and kickboxing to children, where she found her true passion: teaching others. "It's so exciting to watch them grow and become amazing," she admits. While living overseas in Jordan for a couple of years, she was reminded of her love for dance when she took a job at a local dance studio. She especially enjoyed the Latin dances, such as Salsa, Merengue and Bachata. After returning to Wisconsin to attend UWM for business, she found herself teaching martial arts again, until that fateful day when she spotted the Fred Astaire sign just a few miles from her house. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, she quickly decided to follow her heart and feet back to dancing, joining the Greenfield Fred Astaire team in May of 2011.
